Our day tours were
designed for those who are already planning on being in or near Butuan
and are looking for some fun and adventure. Ranging in price from 3,750
to 6,500 per day, our day tours are very affordable and offer all of the
adventure and exotic scenery as our package tours.
We currently offer 3
separate guided day tours which each offer something unique and
different.
 |
Camiguin Island -
Tour Cost 6,500 per motorcycle (2 people).
Price is inclusive of meal expenses of our tour guides,
motorcycle rental, gasoline, insurance, usage of 2 helmets, 2 rain suits
& storage box and round-trip ferry fares for all motorcycles and 2 tour
guests & tour guides, entrance fees to Sto. Niño Cold Springs,
Ardent Hot Springs and Katibawasan falls. Price does not include meal expenses of tour
guests, snorkeling/scuba gear rentals or
island hopping fees/pump boat rentals.
 |
About a 2 hour ride west from Butuan is the
small port of Balingoan where we catch a 1 hour ro-ro ferry to the
island of Camiguin. Camiguin is notable for it's abundance of natural
attractions and some rather unique points of interest like the sunken
cemetery, which was created during a volcano eruption and is now marked
with a huge cross that rests on a submerged foundation and has become
littered with corals and marine life. Located only about 200 meters
off-shore, this site is easily accessible from shore with basic
snorkeling gear. |
 |
Also of notable interest in Camiguin are the
Ardent Hot Springs and Resort, Sto. Niño Cold Springs, Soda Water
Swimming Pool, Gui-Ob old church ruins, Mt. Hibok-Hibok (PhilVocs)
Volcano Observatory, Katibawasan Falls and the giant clam sanctuary.
|
 |
If island hopping is your delight, both White
Island and Mantigue Island offer excitement and adventure. Local
pump-boat operators will take you island hopping to these islands for
about 2000 to 4000 depending on the distance and duration of the trip.
Both of these islands offer excellent snorkeling around coral reefs
teaming with tropical marine life.
|
 |
The roads on Camiguin Island are very good
concrete roads and about 75% of the coastal road borders the sea. With a
circumference of less than 90 km, the island can easily be
circumnavigated in 2 hours or less at a leisurely 50-60km/hr pace.
|
 |
The tour itinerary is pretty simple. We
depart from our office in Butuan around 6:30am, arrive in Balingoan
around 8:30am, board the 9:00am ferry and arrive in the port of Benoni
on Camiguin Island around 10:00-10:15am. Our return ferry departs Benoni
at 3:00pm which leaves about 5(+/-) hours for us to ride and explore the
island and experience it's offerings. We arrive back in the port of
Balingoan around 4:30pm which puts us arriving back at our office in
Butuan around 6:30pm just about the time it is getting dark.
|
 |
Although 5 hours is ample time to
circumnavigate the island and visit all of the sites we have listed
(island hopping excluded), one could easily spend 3 to 5 days on this
island engaged in exploration, snorkeling, island hopping and relaxing
in the hot springs, cold springs and falls. Often our tour guests decide
to stay overnight which is no problem for us. We do not charge
additional for our own lodging and meal expenses, we simply add another
day at the regular day-tour price. Assuming we have no pending
obligations with other tour reservations, we are happy to stay on
Camiguin as long as you like and be your guides.

|
 |
Surigao/Lipata -
Tour Cost 5,000 per motorcycle (2 people).
Price is inclusive of meal expenses of our tour guides,
motorcycle rental, gasoline, insurance, usage of 2 helmets, 2 rain suits
& storage box, entrance fees and guides fees at Silop Caves and a 1
hour boat tour of Day-asan Floating Village. Price does not include meal expenses of tour
guests, snorkeling/scuba gear rentals or
island hopping.
 |
Surigao is a short 2 hour ride northeast of
Butuan. The trip to Surigao takes us past Lake Mainit (literally
translated into "Hot"), the 4th largest freshwater lake in the
Philippines. The name "Mainit", or "Hot" comes from
the fact that numerous geothermal hot springs exist under the
lake and serve to create a warmer than expected water
temperature. |
 |
Surigao is known as "The Land of Island
Adventure" and is one of the best spots in the Philippines to go
island hopping in consideration that there are more than 20
small islets that are within a 1 to 2 hour pump-boat ride from
the shores of Surigao and Lipata. The waters around Surigao are
abundant with corals and marine life, making the area a prime
attraction for snorkeling enthusiasts. |
 |
Also of notable interest in Surigao is the
Surigao Straight which is the passage between Surigao and the Island of
Leyte. This was the site of the historical WWII naval battle known as
the "Battle of Surigao Straight" and was also Magellan's passageway into
the Philippines during his epic circumnavigation of the globe in 1521.
Another unique site in Surigao, that is accessible from land, is the
Day-asan floating village. This barangay is built entirely on stilts
in the middle of a pristine mangrove forest. In addition to the DayDream luxury
resort, boat tours and snorkeling are available as activities at this
site. Just a short distance from Day-asan is the barangay of Silop where
a spectacular natural cave exists and can be toured with the assistance
of local tour guides.
|
 |
Our tour route takes us first into the port
town of Lipata and then along the coastal road into Surigao. The roads we travel are in excellent
condition and vary from asphalt to concrete. The short 2km long road into barangay Silop
is a dirt road but kept in good condition and poses little issue to our
touring. Traveling from Butuan to Lipata takes us inland, over a vast
plateau of rice patties with scenic mountain ranges in the background, then
raises slightly into the mountains just before we enter the outskirts of
Surigao.
|
 |
Keeping the itinerary as simple and optional
as possible, we depart Butuan about 6:30am and arrive at Lake Mainit
around 8:00am. Most often, we stop for breakfast at the Almont Lakeside
Resort where the restaurant overlooks the lake. After breakfast, we
proceed on to Lipata, arriving around 9:30am and then into Surigao. Our
departure time from Surigao is 4:00pm which leaves about 5-6 hours open
for additional area touring and activities. This is more than sufficient
time to have lunch overlooking the Surigao Straight, take a boat tour of
Day-asan and explore the caves in barangay Silop, all with minimal
activity fees of P100 to P200 per person. If island hopping is your
desire, the possibilities include islands with spectacular rock
formations, white sand beaches, white pebble beaches, caves, and one
island where a natural whirlpool is created by the currents and emits a
strange whistling sound. A typical 4 hour island hopping excursion can
have you hitting 3 to 4 of these islands to explore their own unique
offerings for a cost of about 4,000 total from a local pump-boat
operator. Departing Surigao at 4:00pm has us arriving back at our office
in Butuan around 6:30pm just as it is becoming dark.
|
 |
Often, our tour guests become totally
captivated by the endless snorkeling and island hopping potential of this
area and decide to stay overnight. Same as with our Camiguin Island tour, we do
not charge additional for the lodging and meal expenses of the tour
guides. If you decide to stay overnight, we are happy to stay as your
tour guides and we simply add an additional day to the tour at the
normal day-tour cost, assuming we have no pending obligations with other
tour reservations.

include meal expenses of tour guests.

Butuan
city has an archeological record dating back to the 3rd century
AD, which easily makes it the oldest city on record in the
Philippines. Even before this time, Butuan City was the trading
center of the Philippines, due in part to the rich abundance of
gold in the central and northern regions of the island of
Mindanao which is still heavily mined to this day. Butuan city
also claims to be the site of the first Catholic Mass performed
in the Philippines which occurred in 1521 when Ferdinand
Magellan sailed into the Philippines and attempted to assert
Spanish dominion over the islands. Cebu City, however, also
claims to be the site of the first mass but the fact that
Magellan was killed by the Filipino Datu Chief Lapu-Lapu after
being in Cebu for only 21 days, it only goes to reason that if
Magellan landed in Butuan, it would most definitely been before
he was slain and therefore Butuan's claim would be
substantiated. Both the site of Magellan's landing on Masau
Beach and the site of the first mass on the Masau river are
memorialized with monuments. |
 |
The
historical record of Butuan was established in the late 1970's
when a flotilla of anciant boats were unearthed during a ditch
digging project near to the Masau river. These boats, known as
the Balanghai Boat have since been excavated and one is on
display at te Balanghai boat Museum which also houses additional
artifacts found at the site. There is currently a project
underway in Butuan to replicate the various versions of the
Balanghai boat in full scale, after which most of them will be
relocated to various parts of the Philippines. One of the
Balanghai Boat replicas is slated to retrace the ancient trade
route from Butuan to China. There are 2 additional artifacts
displays in Butuan displaying cultural artifacts dating back to
the time of the Butuan Boat and also during the period of
Spanish and Portuguese exploration in the 1500's. These are on
display at the Butuan City National Museum and also at the
Balanghai Hotel. |
 |
About
15 minutes west of Butuan is the port of Nasipit which is the
closest regional port servicing ro-ro's for passenger and
vehicular travel to other islands. Another port located within
the City of Butuan at the mouth of the Masau river currently
services only freight ferries but is currently being expanded to
service ro-ros in the near future with proposed routes to Leyte
and Bohol. We will visit both of these ports. |
 |
About
an additional 15 minutes farther west is the town of Carmen
which features the Mt. Carmel View park. This park boasts a
large 5 meter tall shrine to the Mother Mary and also offers
spectacular views of the shoreline and neighboring mountains.
This is definitely the best vantage point in the area. |
 |
Our
tour itinerary has us leaving our office next to City Hall
around 7:00am and we will proceed west to visit the port of
Nasipit and on into Carmen to the Mt. Carmel View Park.
Returning to Butuan, we make a detour just outside the city
proper, in Bancasi, to visit the site of the first mass. Very
near to this site is the Balanghai Boat Museum and archeological
site, located in barangay Libertad. Returning into Butuan City,
we will pause for lunch and then proceed to the National Museum
followed by a short stop at the Balanghai Hotel to view their
artifacts display. Next, we travel into barangay Bading to visit
the site of the Balanghai Boat replica construction. At this
point, our tour shifts it's focus of attention from historical
and cultural sites to simply locating the area beaches,
monuments, best restaurants and night spots. We are also happy
to fulfill any special requests you might have about some place
in particular you want to visit or explore. The tour ends at
6:00pm with us returning to our office.
